What kind of music do you sing?
We sing a wide range of Christian a cappella (voice-only) music, from traditional hymns to jazz to upbeat rock, by artists & groups such as Glad, dc Talk, Point of Grace, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jars of Clay, and more.

What are auditions like?
Auditions are held during freshman orientation and typically consist of vocal warmups, a prepared solo, singing a background part with a quartet of current members, and additional vocal exercises. Some prospective members are invited for callbacks after the first audition; not all successful auditions require callbacks. Those who decide to join are expected to commit to sing for the entire following school year (fall and spring). To sign up for an audition, come by our booth at the Activities Midway during freshman orientation, or contact us by filling out the form on this page or directly by email.

Where and how often do you perform?
Once per term, we hold our end-of-semester concert at MIT. We do other gigs periodically, spaced a few weeks, days, or even a few hours apart, depending on where we are in the semester. In the fall, all of MIT’s a cappella groups hold the Parent’s Weekend A Cappella Concert; in the Spring, collegiate Christian a cappella groups from all over the Northeast and beyond meet for a weekend get-together and concert, known as Break It Down Boston. We also perform at nursing homes, churches, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, Christian retreats, local Christian students’ fellowship events, and at other schools’ Christian a cappella concerts as a guest group.

Do you do anything besides sing in your performances?
We perform skits and give introductions to songs if background information is helpful to the audience. In our concerts, one of our members will give a brief personal talk about some aspect of Christianity.

How much do you rehearse?
We generally schedule six hours of rehearsal per week, during Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Between rehearsals, members are expected to practice the music on their own.

How many members are there?
Take a look at our members list! Our numbers have ranged from as few as seven to as many as nineteen.

Do I need any vocal training in order to join?
Not necessarily. Some of our members have had no previous training (other than singing in the shower), while others have been members in singing groups and/or have taken voice lessons. We require an audition of prospective members to test various aspects of their musical performance.

I would love to donate to Cross Products! What’s the best way for me to do so?
